Ella Toad, Owen Fox, and Zoe Rabbit take a boat to Thimbleberry Island, and spot a small cottage right on the edge of the woods. They see a duck coming out of the cottage and waddling towards the bay that separates Thimbleberry Island from Hazel Village. Owen, who is steering the boat, does not notice the duck go into the water and almost hits him with the boat, but Zoe stops him just in time. Zoe invites the duck onto the boat. The duck had never been on a boat before. Gaspard Duck gives Owen a thank you present for not hitting him. It is one of his green feathers. It is very meaningful to Owen, because Owen loves the color green so much. Gaspard decides to swim instead of being on the boat, so they let him.
As Zoe, Owen, and Ella step onto Thimbleberry Island, they see a whole duck community, and decide to stay for a while. Gaspard introduces Owen Fox, Ella Toad, and Zoe Rabbit to his family and Owen Fox thinks it is so cute that he has a little duckling brother. Owen Fox and Gaspard Duck become best friends. Zoe invites Gaspard Duck to come back to Hazel Village. Once in Hazel Village, Gaspard sees the lake and finds it very inviting. Gaspard Duck teaches Zoe Rabbit to swim in the lake. Zoe Rabbit is very grateful to the duck and they become friends. Ella Toad and the duck also become fast friends because they both enjoy swimming and playing in the water. Gaspard goes back home, but promises to visit Hazel Village again in the Bird Parade North. Maybe he'll even bring his little duckling brother!
